Welcome to the English Learning for Preschoolers Project!

The purpose of the English Learning for Preschoolers Project is to offer:

Teaching Strategies Materials Trainings

…to individuals interested in achieving optimal educational outcomes for children who attend public preschool programs, are between the ages of 3 and 5, and arrive at school knowing a language other than English or who come from homes in which more than one language is spoken, one of which may be English. The information contained in the products and presentations are based on the most current research and successful practices.

The English Learning for Preschoolers Project is funded by the California Department of Education (CDE), Child Development Division (CDD). Our project is one of the many quality improvement activities undertaken by the CDD in order to assure that California's children receive the best care and education possible.

English Learning for Preschoolers training is provided by CPIN. The CPIN is organized utilizing the 11 regions designated by the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA). There is a Regional Lead, English Learner Lead and Special Education Lead stationed in each of the eleven regions throughout the state of California. “At conference time, I like children to show their journals to their parents. It is a great way for young children to share their own work and progress, over time, with their families. It is rewarding, for both me and the parents, to see the dictation move from the child's home language to English. I hear children “reading” the English dictation to their parent and then translating so their parent will understand. This is also the beginning, of what we hope will be, a life-long dialogue between parent and child about school, homework and learning.”
