Welcome to Observation of Preschool Children.
Course Description
This ten-week course will help you acquire the tools and knowledge you will need to use observation with the goal of helping young children develop socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. You will learn how to use your observations to guide partnerships with families, to make curriculum decisions and to assist with environmental design.
As a result of participating in this course, you will:

Develop objective observation skills

Use basic quantitative recording techniques

Identify and manage logistical challenges, biases and preconceptions

Design and use a portfolio system to store observations and work samples

Reflect upon observation records to identify patterns, trends and conclusions about individuals and groups of children

Involve families in the observation process

Use observation findings to drive curriculum and environmental changes that will support children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth
Course requirement include readings, practice, implementation, sharing with peers, and a final report.
